Geraldine Cox first went to Cambodia in 1970 with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs. Since 1996 she has lived there permanently to be with the group of refugee, orphaned and disadvantaged children she first started to help in 1993.
In 1999 King Norodom Shihanouk gave her Cambodian Citizenship and in 2001 the Australian Government made her a Member of the Order of Australia.
The Australia Cambodia Foundation Inc. was registered as an Australian Charity in September 1993 and it provides a secure home and a safe environment for the children of the Sunrise Children's Village, located just outside of Phnom Penh.
