Rain to see Lake Illawarra entrance reopen

Rain overnight has been enough to raise the level of Lake Illawarra to enable the lake's entrance to be opened up this afternoon.

The Lake Illawarra Authority says the lake's level has risen half a metre, after more than 120 millimetres of rain overnight.

Authority chairman Doug Prosser says the entrance should be reopen later this afternoon.

"It won't be ideal because we usually prefer to open the lake when you have a very low tide and a very high tide, but the tides at present are mid-range and so it's not ideal," he said.

"But we've reached that stage and the people in the caravan park are getting a bit nervous as the water creeps into their backyards."
