What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have - Sarah Blasko
This is the second album from this Australian singer/songwriter. It was recorded in Neil Finn's new studio in New Zealand, and has Jim Moginie (ex-Midnight Oil) playing and assisting in production duties.

This album is quieter and more introspective than The Overture And The Underscore, but has a bigger palette of sounds, with strings and various keyboards appearing on some tracks. There is also an assuredness in Sarah's vocals which invests the songs with a strong emotional depth.

An excellent album pointing to a strong career.

New Music
:: The Black Swan - Bert Jansch
Bert Jansch has been a mainstay of the British folk scene since the early 60s, as both a solo performer and as a founding member of the band Pentangle (1968 - 1973). The Black Swan is a mix of traditional folk songs and Jansch originals. Jansch has invited guest vocals from Beth Orton and Devendra Banhart but the strength of the album is his guitar playing and the songs themselves.

:: Love - The Beatles
We have three tracks from the forthcoming Beatles remix album. The remixes came about as a soundtrack for a Las Vegas show by Canada's Cirque du Soleil, and were created by George Martin and his son Giles. Some of the cuts mix several tracks together, with vocals from one over the music from another, while others have newly recorded strings either replacing much of the original backing ('While My Guitar Gently Weeps') or augmenting it.

'Strawberry Fields Forever' begins with John Lennon's original demo of the song before the full version kicks in, and is then supplemented by a bunch of other Beatles songs. 'Lady Madonna' has a new organ solo and lots of percussion. We'll add other songs as they come to hand. Overall, the remixing seems to remain true to the original songs.

:: Valleys - Andrew Morris
The second album from the Brisbane guitarist/singer/songwriter. It mixes country, folk and rock, and while his voice isn't great, the songs and playing are good.

:: Cielo Norte - Bill Payne
Bill Payne was the co-founder of the band Little Feat, with Lowell George back in 1969. This is his first solo album, and it sounds nothing like that band! It features Bill mainly on piano, with drum machine and synthesiser backing - it's somewhere in the jazz/rock/almost new age vortex. It could be indulgent or obscure, but manages to get around this by combining 'improvised' with 'composed' music. A unique and engaging work.

Old Music
We've gone where many fear to tread and brought back the best (and probably some of the "what were they thinking" type tracks) by Steppenwolf (how many different bass players did they have?), Blood Sweat And Tears (we skipped the hits in their case), and some old Motown singles.
